Sandyhills and Southwick
The peace of the countryside and the shore.Along the main A710 Dumfries to Dalbeattie road there are many pretty coastal villages, of which Sandyhills is one. The name of the village says it all....Sandyhills. Dominated by a beautiful, quiet sandy bay, and with a backdrop of rolling hills and woodland, Sandyhills is a holiday paradise for visiting families. Supplied by a small shop close to the beach, and with Colvend Golf course and Southerness Championship Golf Links just a couple of miles away, Southerness offers a variety of pursuits and activities.
The main towns of Dalbeattie and Dumfries are about 20 minutes car or bus journey away, and this beautiful coastline is interspersed with lovely tearooms and craft and pottery shops, not to mention other similarly interesting bays where you can walk, explore the rock pools or dig in the sand.
If you prefer to explore nature, the RSPB Bird Reserve at Mersehead is just along the coast and provides an interesting day out. More about birds.
